In Necochea he was known as "the solidary judge" and his death, this Friday, at the age of 64,

shocked the resort town

.

Mario Alberto Juliano, head of Criminal Court No. 1, suffered a myocardial infarction while carrying out, precisely,

a solidarity crusade

.

Through the organization Efecto Mariposa, the judge had proposed to run along 280 kilometers to unite the six towns of the district, Quequén, Juan N. Fernández, Claraz, La Dulce, Ramón Santamarina and Necochea.

Thus, he sought to

raise funds for the construction of a house

for a family composed of a woman with her 8 children and a grandchild.

With an extensive career as a judicial officer, Juliano was a man committed to solidarity causes, which in recent years he carried out through the NGO Asociación Pensamiento Penal Solidaria, which he created and led.

Four years ago, he wrote a note on the Red Harvest site that was replicated in the media across the country.

"I am a criminal judge and my daughter grows marijuana," was presented in the title.

"My name is Mario Juliano, I am 60 years old and I have been a criminal judge for 18 years. I have never consumed prohibited substances, usually known under the label of 'drugs'. I do not comment on it as a merit or as a defect. Simply as a fact of reality, so that the eventual readers know me a little more ".

He explained in the note in which he spoke of his daughter, then 31 years old, mother of a boy, lawyer and

cannabis activist

: "Without being a consumer and without that possibility being part of my plans, I have become

one more militant for the decriminalization of consumption

, by the progressive legalization of substances, by the regulation of markets as a strategy to counteract drug trafficking mafia networks and to get people who are unduly deprived of liberty for these reasons out of jail. "

Juliano had a very active role in social networks.

In one of his last messages, he recounted alternatives to the career he had undertaken and celebrated: "How can we be grateful for so much love and solidarity? With more than ten days to go to close the campaign, we almost gathered all of what we need to

build the house of mud for Natalia and her family

. "

From the same networks, they mourned their loss.

"I deeply regret the death of the magistrate of Court number 1 of Necochea, Mario Juliano, who worked for years with lucidity, generosity and commitment to

humanize the judicial and prison system

," wrote Julio Alak, the Buenos Aires Minister of Justice, and greeted his family, friends and loved ones.

"I still believe that it is a lie. One of the most committed lawyers I have ever met and one of the best judges this country had. Mario Juliano died last night and the world is

a little more horrible and less supportive,

" wrote Graciana Peñafort, Cristina's lawyer Kirchner.

The Bahía Blanca Magistrates Association expressed its regret for the death of the judge, and replied in his message the words of the Necochea Bar Association: "Mario was not only known for his performance as a judge but also for being the creator of the Association Pensamiento Penal and for belonging to the Butterfly Effect Association, with which he had been working hard with a purely solidarity purpose, being

an example of commitment

to each task he carried out, defending his convictions ".
