The Ministry of Health of the Nation reported this Saturday

another 275 deaths and 11,968 new cases

of coronavirus throughout the country.

It was after a new extension of the quarantine, this time with a focus on eight provinces (San Luis, Mendoza, Salta, Tucumán, Neuquén, Santa Fe, Río Negro and Córdoba), in addition to the Metropolitan Area of Buenos Aires (AMBA).

After the update of infections at a global level - which today, for the third day in a row, registered a daily record with half a million infections worldwide - Argentina fell to sixth place in the world ranking of cases, after being surpassed by France, that in the last hours registered 45,422 new positives and already counts 1,086,497.

Another country that reached the barrier of one million infections was Colombia, although it remains well below Argentina.

Meanwhile, the national government announced a new opening: that of the borders.

The Minister of Tourism and Sports, Matías Lammens, confirmed this morning that the entry of tourists from neighboring countries (Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay, Bolivia and Chile) will be allowed

during the next summer season.

"From the national government we made the decision to open the borders to receive tourists from neighboring countries. In principle it will be by air, through Ezeiza, and by sea through the Port of Buenos Aires," he said in statements to

radio Miter.

In this context, he explained: "We have worked all week with the Ministry of Health to create the conditions for this to happen."

Lammens pointed out that the decision implies "an

important income for our economy

and one more stage in this pandemic to turn the page, without abandoning the fight against the virus that has us in full battle."

On the other hand, the City confirmed that this summer the Buenos Aires beaches will work again, although with "some adjustments".

“Buenos Aires Playa

starts the first days of January

and runs until the end of February.

We are going to have some adjustments because we are in a pandemic context, but we are also thinking about how to prepare it so that it has the necessary flexibility to accommodate the health evolution that occurs from now until February, "said the capital's chief of staff, Felipe Miguel, in dialogue with

CNN Radio.

"We are planning it with enough flexibility," said the minister who will work together with his technical team and that of the Ministry of Health headed by Quirós in the protocols that guarantee a low risk of contagion among those who want to attend, as happened with partial presence of the boys in the classrooms.

In addition, after seven months closed, in the Federal Capital the gyms will be operating again, with

prior reservation

and a

maximum capacity of 25%

, depending on the ventilation of the establishment.

The cap will be authorized in those with ten air changes per hour.

If they are less, the percentage of occupancy allowed will also be lower.

In the case of swimming pools, only those outdoors will be allowed in clubs and public and private institutions.

In addition, the use of air conditioning systems will not be enabled.

They will not be able to use their changing rooms either, although there will be an exception: changing the wet mesh.

In no case may the showers be used.

And only one person will be allowed to enter every 15 m2.
