A new Israeli study found that drinking a lot of water was associated with reducing the risk of developing breast cancer, by neutralizing the effect of variables such as age and even genetics.

A study conducted by Bar Ilan University and in collaboration with Shaare Zedek examined 206 women aged 25 to 65, half of whom were diagnosed with breast cancer.

For the control group, women with characteristics similar to those of the sick women were selected in terms of age, number of births, body mass index, breastfeeding and more, and the women also completed a detailed nutritional questionnaire.

There were almost no differences between the two groups, except for the fact that women without breast cancer drank 20% more water than women with breast cancer.

Women with breast cancer drank an average of 5.28 glasses of water per day compared to 6.6 glasses of water per day in the group without breast cancer.

The other findings that came up in the study and joined existing studies are that women without breast cancer ate more fruit, drank less alcohol, had more exercise and had less family history of the disease, compared to women with breast cancer.

The researchers noted that previous studies have found a link between drinking water and reducing the chance of colon cancer, so it was decided to examine a possible link to breast cancer as well.

The association found in the study is only static, but the hypothesis is that "the explanation for the positive effect of water is the state of cell saturation. Drinking little water causes the cells to dehydrate which disrupts the control of cell division, and can cause a cancerous process. Drinking water increases the rate of depletion. The intestine and the secretion of estrogen in the feces, and reduces its concentration in the breast and thus reduces the risk of breast cancer. , A public health expert from Bar Ilan University, and Moshe Carmon from Shaare Zedek.
