Now it's getting scary for the little ones: Family Minister Franziska Giffey believes that they should not go on the Halloween candy tour because of the corona pandemic.

No nibbles, no horror, no "Trick or Treat" shouting in front of the neighbors' door: if Federal Family Minister Franziska Giffey (SPD) and several medical professionals want it, children should not be closed this year because of the corona pandemic Halloween on October 31st.

"To run in groups from door to door and collect sweets - this is currently not the time," Giffey told the "Welt".

Jakob Maske, Berlin spokesman for the professional association of paediatricians, said: "The very clear recommendation is to drop the custom this year."

You don't know who is opening the door.

"Maybe it is a person from the group of high-risk patients," says Maske.

The risk of infection is simply too high.

The city of Lübeck also advises children and parents not to go on the sweets tour this year, similar to the State Parents' Committee in Berlin: "In times when the corona numbers are rising significantly, you don't go around the block in groups and ring the bell on tens of houses, "says chairwoman Corinna Balkow.

US Army wants to cordon off residential areas in Wiesbaden

The US Army in Wiesbaden has even taken drastic measures to prevent possible infections from Halloween celebrations.

As the US Army announced, the entrances will be completely closed on the evening of October 31 this year.

The European headquarters of the Army is located in the city, which is surrounded by large residential areas of US soldiers.

The Halloween custom is traditionally celebrated here extensively.

According to Giffey, the party in Germany doesn't have to be canceled entirely: "At home, in a small group, dressing up and snacking can also be fun," the minister tried to find consolation.

The Corona crisis not only spoils the horror festival for many children, it also affects the business of the toy industry.

According to the German Association of the Toy Industry, the annual turnover on Halloween is normally between 50 and 100 million euros.

"The level of the last few years will hardly be attainable," believes the association's managing director Ulrich Brobeil.

Brobeil does not consider moving around the house on Halloween to be as risky as many doctors or parents.

After all, many of the children went to the same class or sports club.

In addition, everyone can decide for themselves whether to open the door or not.

The children should have participated enough this year.

One should not also take this joy away from them.
