(ANSA) - ROME, OCTOBER 27 - Coronavirus deaths in Europe increased by 40% compared to a week ago, while contagions by a third.
WHO spokeswoman Margaret Harris told the BBC.
"The concern is that intensive care is filling up with very sick people and across the European region we see an alarming increase in evictime cases," he added.
The surge in coronavirus cases in Europe is, in part, due to the fact that citizens have not received clear indications from governments on self-isolation, according to the World Health Organization. "If people are helped, they will become self-isolating, but if they see only posters or slogans without serious indications they will not," UN agency spokeswoman Margaret Harris told the BBC. "The Asian countries have been more efficient in this and have in fact been able to control the virus," he added.
As for the lockdown, the WHO spokesperson reiterated that the lockdown is not a desirable solution but "it is understandable that, in some ways, it is the easiest solution for a government". (HANDLE).
