Bodo Schiffmann: Patients with a mask certificate may never have been in the practice

The police and public prosecutor's office are investigating the doctor and prominent speaker of the conspiracy movement "lateral thinking", Bodo Schiffmann.

As the public prosecutor's office in Heidelberg announced, the Heidelberg district court issued a search warrant for the practice rooms of a Sinsheim doctor. 

A public prosecutor did not initially confirm that this was Schiffmann's practice when asked by SPIEGEL.

However, Schiffmann himself announced in a video message that a search had taken place in his practice.

Patients may never have been examined

According to the investigators, the doctor is said to have issued incorrect health certificates in at least three cases.

"For medical reasons, this exempted them from the current obligation to wear mouth and nose protection," it said.

However, there is a suspicion that the people had never been examined by the doctor and that there were no reasons for exemption from the mask requirement.

The allegedly examined people would live several hundred kilometers away from the practice.

Schiffmann himself announced in the video that one of the certificates was a forgery.

In two cases it was not clear whether the patients were being treated in the practice.

In another case, the investigators would have photographed a patient file.

The ENT doctor distributes his videos on YouTube, for example, where he runs a channel with thousands of subscribers with his practice, the "Vertigo Ambulance Sinsheim".

A good 98,000 people follow him on the Telegram messenger service.

Schiffmann had recently become one of the leading figures in the conspiracy-theoretical "lateral thinking" demonstrations and had spoken several times at events in the series.
