The world of durum wheat-pasta is united, aiming at rewarding to promote quality Italian products and to relaunch supply chain contracts.

This is the message launched today by the Alliance of Agri-food Cooperatives, Assosementi, Cia-Italian Farmers, Compag, Confagricoltura, Copagri, Italmopa- Associazione Industriali Mugnai d'Italia and the pasta makers of the Italian Food Union, the associations signing the memorandum of understanding "Supply Chain quality durum wheat-pasta ", presenting the results of the 2019-2020 campaign prepared by Fruclass.

It is an innovative system developed by the University of Tuscia which collected and analyzed qualitative and quantitative data of durum wheat stored in more than 40 centers in 19 provinces, providing a real-time cross-section of national production.

As a result, 76% of the durum wheat sold under supply chain contracts falls within the quality parameters, compared to 42% not marketed under this type of contract.

Despite adverse environmental factors, which in some cases have contributed to reducing the availability of wheat with qualitative parameters suitable for satisfying the required rewards, the productions affected by the supply chain contracts have managed to cope with these reductions in a more consistent and structured way.

By analyzing the qualitative and quantitative data of almost 160 thousand tons of durum wheat it was possible, for the first time in Italy, to identify qualitative classification based on uniform criteria and values, intended to recognize and reward those who protect and guarantee the supply of material national quality first.

Wheat becomes part of the quality area and therefore of the reward provided by supply chain contracts, when the conferment has values of Protein Grade (GP) of 13% or higher and Specific Weight (PS) of at least 78 Kg / hl.
