(ANSA) - ROME, OCTOBER 31 - Police in the state of Washington shot and killed a young 21-year-old African American, a former football player, during an anti-drug operation.
The American media reports.
The incident took place last Thursday in the Vancouver municipality, but the dynamics of the shooting are unclear.
In a press conference, Clark County Sheriff Chuck Atkins said the victim, Kevin Peterson Jr., father of a girl, allegedly shot officers chasing him into a bank parking lot.
"The policemen returned fire and the young man died. A weapon was also found on the spot," he said.
But other witnesses claim that the young man was unarmed.
The killing of Peterson provoked the protests of numerous activists of the Black Lives Matter movement, who took to the streets to demonstrate.
