500 to 800 people gathered - without complying with the Corona rules - on Halloween evening in front of the Frankfurt Hauptwache.

Police officers were attacked from within the crowd.

Eggs and bottles flew, the officials announced on Sunday.

Shortly beforehand, stones were also said to have been thrown at the police on the Zeil shopping street.

In mid-July, five police officers were injured and 39 suspected rioters were temporarily arrested in riots on Frankfurt's Opernplatz.

Police officers were attacked from among the crowd, police chief Gerhard Bereswill spoke of a "hail of bottles being thrown" that fell on the officers.

The city administration reacted with a ban on entering the Opera Square, which had developed into a kind of open-air party zone due to closed bars and clubs.

Police President: "Will proceed consistently"

After the recent attacks in Frankfurt, the police arrested a total of nine suspects.

Eight suspects were released for lack of grounds for detention.

A 17-year-old known to the police, on the other hand, spent the night in a cell of the presidium and was supposed to be brought before the judge on Sunday.

On Friday night, police officers had been attacked in Frankfurt who wanted to settle a dispute between two men.

The investigation into this case has now led to an 18-year-old who is said to have attacked a 27-year-old police officer.

The officer was no longer fit for duty after the attack.

Frankfurt Police President Gerhard Bereswill said after the recent attacks on police officers in his city.

It is "unbearable when people spontaneously band together against the police".

"I condemn in the strongest possible terms that people come together to attack their colleagues in a massive way and accept that they may sustain serious injuries," said Bereswill.

"You can be certain that we will not accept this behavior and will take consistent action against it."

In addition to Frankfurt, there were also mass attacks on police officers in Stuttgart in recent months.
