The municipality of Balcarce, in the southeast of the province of Buenos Aires, is not having a good time with Covid-19.
So much so that in the last hours, the local hospital authorities
had to ask the local population
for
orthopedic beds
in order to support the health system due to the increasing number of positive cases.
The health collapse in the city, located about 51 kilometers west of Mar del Plata, became known in the course of the last two weeks.
First, the authorities of
the Subzonal Municipal Hospital "Dr. Felipe A. Fossatti"
warned on the night of last Wednesday October 21 that there was a serious danger of saturation.
And last weekend, the collapse came true.
The municipal authorities finally warned that they were already working
"at one hundred percent of their operational capacity"
and even that hospitalizations had to be made in the guard sector, due to the demand for patients suffering from Covid-19 and with respiratory conditions.

The management of the Hospital, led by Dr. Antonio Dojas, called for the solidarity of the neighbors so that those who have orthopedic beds at home, provide them on loan.
"It is requested that all those neighbors who have orthopedic beds available to donate or give as a loan to contact the health provider. To do so, they should contact the Secretary of the Directorate," they reported.

According to
El Diario de Balcarce
, Dojas himself commented that the occupation of beds in the medical clinic area and Covid-19 is total.
"We are saturated,"
he said.
The official remarked that there are several health agents, including doctors and nurses, affected by the disease but that the commitment of the rest of the colleagues makes it possible to care for patients.
Balcarce registered only two cases of coronavirus in the last 24 hours, but it
reached 205 in just one week.
In total, the number of active infections is 527, while the global number of
positives detected since the beginning of the pandemic is 1,074
.
There have also been 18 deaths so far.
If the total number of cases is taken into account, the situation in Balcarce, with a population of over 44,000 people, does not seem alarming, but there is a fact that is really scary.
According to the daily report of the Ministry of Health of the Nation, that town currently has
a double infection of 24.9 days
, which puts it among the cities in which the virus is spreading the fastest in the province of Buenos Aires.
General Pueyrredón, where Mar del Plata is, for example, today has a duplication of more than 60 days.
As of November 2, 2020, in the province of Buenos Aires there is a total of 550,939 infected by coronavirus and 17,664 deaths, while throughout the country there are 1,173,533 positive cases, 985,316 recovered patients and 31,140 deaths, according to to the official data of the Ministry of Health.
