Stricter measures to contain the corona pandemic have been in effect in Germany again since Monday, including in some cases the mask requirement.

But not everyone seems to be clear when and where wearing a mouth and nose cover is compulsory in public.

The city police in Frankfurt help out.

City Policeman:

"Hello, good afternoon, the city police. Do me a favor and get yourself a mouth and nose cover as soon as possible, will you? You'd have to wear a mask in the city center."

Older man:

"I have another one at home. I can connect it tomorrow."

Michael Jenisch, Public Order Office Frankfurt:

"It is actually compulsory to wear a mask in the entire inner city area of Frankfurt. But of course you can stay where you are to drink, eat and smoke, consume, then put your mask back on and then please go on."

In many places, the regulatory authorities are taking the renewed shutdown as an opportunity to monitor compliance with the mask requirement in public more closely and to keep an eye out for prohibited gatherings of people.

Failure to comply with the rules will result in fines.

Michael Jenisch, Public Order Office Frankfurt:

"There is a lot to do, because of course the rules are very diverse. The fines for violating a mask are 50 euros. This can be demanded directly on site or it leads to an administrative offense procedure."

"There are people who are very understanding and then immediately put on their mask. Of course, as with everything, there are people who start discussing and fundamentally question the measures. It doesn't matter to us. to convince everyone to get a uniform picture and to operate pandemic protection accordingly. "

In the capital, too, the shifts of inspecting officers were reinforced in order to inspect larger transfer stations.

According to the Federal Police, however, there were only occasional discussions about the mask requirement.

Olga Schadura:

"We can't do anything else. Health is very important to us."

Anonymous passenger:

"The mask requirement in general? The question is whether it really brings anything, but we will see now. It is a difference to spring. In spring it was used almost two weeks later, after the wave was down again went. Now it should work. I'm curious. "

Viktoria Dirschka:

"Well, not annoying now. You just have to wear it, but you forget it every now and then. You want to breathe fresh air for a moment when you sit in the train the whole time. So when it really is a mask requirement it would be a bit annoying because you want to breathe at least some fresh air. "

Most people, however, seem to have got used to the masks: 95 percent of the passengers adhered to the mask requirement, estimates the Federal Police in Berlin.

Whether reluctantly or not cannot be seen behind the masks.
