The US actor Eddie Hassell was shot dead at the age of 30.
The act took place early Sunday morning (local time) in Texas, as reported by the US trade paper "Variety" and the "New York Times", citing the actor's management.
Hassell was reportedly shot in the stomach in front of his girlfriend's apartment in Grand Prairie, a suburb of Dallas.
The actor was taken to a hospital and died there.
According to initial findings, the act is said to have occurred in connection with a car robbery.
The exact background is so far unclear.
The celebrity portal "tmz" reported that there had been no arrest in the case.
Hassell was seen in the film "The Kids Are All Right", which was nominated for an Oscar several times in 2011.
The main roles were played by Julianne Moore, Annette Bening and Mark Ruffalo.
Hassell also starred in several episodes of the NBC science fiction series "Surface".
