Clear words from the German Association of Journalists (DJV): Foreign journalists should exercise great caution when working on site in the USA.
If peaceful protests in Washington and other major cities turn into violence on election night, according to the DJV, reporters should be prepared for it.
It is therefore recommended to be accompanied by bodyguards.
Journalists should also keep in close contact with their editorial offices when working on site.
"Reporting on the presidential election as well as on the reactions on the street is an absolute must for journalists," said the DJV Federal Chairman Frank Überall.
"But the security-relevant framework conditions also have to be right."
Everywhere, the security authorities in the USA called on the freedom of the press to be enforced: "This includes that colleagues can do their jobs, even if fanatical media haters want to prevent this."
Given the extremely polarized political situation, there are concerns that the election of the US president on Tuesday could lead to violent clashes.
