The British tabloid "Sun" can call Johnny Depp a "woman thug", a court in London has ruled. The Hollywood star does not want to accept that.

Hollywood star Johnny Depp wants to appeal against the tabloid "Sun" after his legal defeat.

"The verdict is so flawed that it would be ridiculous if Mr. Depp would not appeal," said his lawyer Jenny Afia.

The court relied solely on the statements of Depp's ex-wife Amber Heard and ignored evidence to the contrary from the police, doctors and other witnesses.

The 57-year-old actor had sued the publisher over an article alleging that he had physically abused Heard, 34, including a "woman thug".

The High Court in London dismissed Depps' action against the "Sun" on Monday.

The majority of the allegations mentioned in the "Sun" have proven to be true, the judges wrote in their judgment.

The celebrity trial in the High Court had attracted worldwide attention in July.

For weeks, Depp and his ex-wife, 23 years his junior, painted the picture of a deeply destructive relationship.

The actress testified in court that she was terrified of Depp: he often yelled at her, kicked her and even choked her.

Depp, in turn, stated that his ex-wife was herself violent.

His attorney ended up calling Heard a "compulsive liar".

It was completely undisputed in the process: Depp repeatedly suffered from his drug and alcohol addiction.

He himself admitted that too.

Heard's lawyer said that the decision was "not a surprise" for someone who followed the trial.

"Very soon we will be producing more evidence in the US," she said.

Because also in the USA Depp has filed a defamation suit against Heard because of the allegations.

She had reported on her experiences of violence in an article in the Washington Post - but without naming Depp.

He and Heard met while filming The Rum Diary.

The couple separated in 2016 after just 15 months of marriage and then fought a month-long war of the roses.

In 2017 the two actors divorced.

Depp paid his ex-wife a $ 7 million settlement, which the actress donated to charity.
