Alongside those who invest in green and clean agriculture in the countryside.

The 'Bio Sardinia District' is born to represent and help all the biological productions of the island in a coordinated way.

The organizing committee has been set up: the Sardinia Organic Producers Association is the leader.

There are also the Metropolitan City of Cagliari, the Municipality of Cagliari, ANCI Sardinia, Coldiretti Sardinia and the ITS Agricultural Supply Chain Foundation of Sardinia.

The primary objective - reads a note - is to foster the cohesion and participation of the actors in the organic supply chain, supporting them so that they can combine their activities with the new frontiers of sustainability (renewable energy, biodiversity, quality of work and life ).

The bio-district also intends to create new direct relationships between producers and consumers, thanks to alternative distribution models such as the short supply chain and solidarity buying groups.

It will also try to encourage public administrations to increase green purchases for school canteens, hospitals and other public services.

"The hope is that the bio-district can become an impulse to encourage the export of local organic products at an international level", says the metropolitan and Cagliari mayor Paolo Truzzu.

"The constitution of the district will allow us to dialogue directly with the ministerial leaders and have access to many more funds, in order to support sustainable agriculture, develop research, innovation and rural culture, activate short supply chains and reconcile the protection of biodiversity with development of rural areas and more advanced agricultural areas ".
