As the first member of the British royal family, Duchess Meghan is said to have cast her vote in a US presidential election.

Numerous US media reported on the 39-year-old's vote, and the German Press Agency had official confirmation.

How and for whom Meghan voted was initially not known.

The Duchess is considered a sharp critic of the incumbent US President Donald Trump.

Previously, Meghan had repeatedly asked those eligible to vote in the United States to cast their vote.

The presidential election in the US, in which the Republican incumbent Trump ran against the Democratic challenger Joe Biden, had not yet produced a final result on Wednesday, many hours after the last polling stations closed.

Meghan was born in 1981 in the US state of California.

In 2018 she married Prince Harry (36) and thus became a member of the British royal family.

In March, the couple broke away from royalty and have been living in California with their one-year-old son Archie for several months.

Royal family members traditionally do not vote in Britain;

but there is no law on this.

Queen Elizabeth II is politically neutral.
