"When the sky was often cloudy and the horizon narrowed, he felt a kind of anxiety that the whole world was again enclosed with a blanket just like the room in which he lived, and when his thoughts then went beyond this vaulted ceiling "So this world in itself seemed much too small to him, and it seemed to him as if it had to be locked in another one, and it went on and on."

Karl Philipp Moritz, "Anton Reiser"

Many years ago the journalist Hanns Joachim Friedrichs was asked on television whether he could show a childhood photo of himself.

Friedrichs was a candidate in some quiz show; it was about the fun it is to find the child he was in the man who sits in front of you.

He didn't have a photo, said Friedrichs tersely - but could assure you that he had a childhood.

Everyone has a childhood, even those who do everything to forget them;

maybe even most of all.

Everything can be explained from childhood, everything that follows has already been outlined here: Anyone who was fearful and alone as a child will not later easily feel at home with people.
