Like sitting in the living room, and hiking: the perfect solution for the terrain on rainy and corona days

The upcoming trip period will be characterized by two main issues - the rains and the corona - and it seems that a trip in an SUV is a good solution to defend against both.

We set out for Nahal Tzipori to test the portable family capsule in a Land Rover SUV.

It was hard to get back on foot

Me and SUVs are like oil and water - I love to walk, to hear quietly, to caress a flower.

While in the jeep you have lost touch with the ground, nature, it is noisy and can also be destructive.

But the coming hiking season will be characterized by two main issues - the rains and the corona - and it seems that a pretty good solution to defend against both, and still hike, is actually found in motorized hikes.

On the one hand, an SUV is a natural protector from the rain.

On the other hand, it is also a kind of portable family capsule that you can travel with - a win win situation.

So I joined the Land Rover Club in Israel, which began to take a variety of mounted tours in the country of varying degrees of difficulty, for example in Nahal Tzipori and the Beit Netofa Valley in the Lower Galilee.

On the face of it, an area I have walked quite a few times, but never at height and certainly not on leather seats.

Walking on leather seats?

You can still get used to it.

The signal can be charged on the vehicles

Saturday, early morning in the Bedouin village of Ras Ali, located right on the creek itself.

About ten SUVs from the prestigious Land Rover brand come together, each with its own segment, its own color.

Immediately change looks - who has bigger, who has replaced professional tires and how many messy scratches does everyone have.

A team of vehicles that I would like everyone to be deployed in front of me: from the classic Range Rover, through the new and large Discovery vehicles to the Defender 110 - an off-road monster with a more jeepy appearance.

For the last two, by the way, the possibility of seating seven places folds into a huge gas - a dream for any family going on a field trip or camping.

The tour guide, Ronen Schwartz from the "4X4 Trails" company who accompanies all club trips, distributes safety instructions, for the car and the Corona days, as well as walkie-talkies for each vehicle, with the help of which he will update on what is seen around and make sure everyone is in the convoy.

On the road, it also provides off-road driving tips, like water crossings or sharp descents.

"May we all have success and a pleasant trip," says Schwartz - giving the signal to storm the vehicles.

Seven places in this little one.

The Horses - "The Real 4X4 Vehicles"

The route in Nahal Tzipori, which begins its flow in the Nazareth Mountains and empties into the Kishon River not far from Kfar Hasidim, is a classic hiking trail where the Israel Trail also passes, but is also considered one of the most popular for jeeps, due to the water flowing in the river.

In recent years, the stream has been renovated and maintained by the Kishon River Drainage Authority, so that hiking trails, small bridges, shady corners, the well-known monks' mill and even the Ein Yavke spring, also known as the "Horse Spring", were arranged. Their "real 4x4s", before the age of the Jeeps.

Ronen announces on the radio, "We will stop here for about half an hour", referring to Ein Yavke - one of the familiar and busy spots on Shabbat - but the beauty of the clear water straight causes some of us to change into a bathing suit and jump into the cold water during this period.

But with all the dust still to be eaten on a trip like this, a refreshing dip is definitely something worth considering.

Immediately the sandwiches and coffee cups are removed

The trail passes through lovely lovely corners along the creek.

Breakfast is held on a personal basis under a huge eucalyptus and shade tree on the river bank, and immediately the sandwiches, coffee breaks are made and an initial acquaintance is made between the members of the trip. were closed in due corona and lovers of space, survived the fall season pleasant to stroll.

soon, already rushing down the field Galilee brown these days provide beautiful appearance of clods on the clods who are waiting for the rains. crossing the interchange that leads through an underpass and immediately connect western outskirts Of the Beit Netofa Valley, a good time to walk in it - the rains will soon come and flood quite a few of its paths and agricultural fields.

A Crusader farm, black ink and one long pipe

We ascend to Tel Hanaton, one of the earliest settlements from the Iron Age in which the tribe of Zebulun sat.

Today it can be seen in the Crusader remains of an agricultural farm with beautiful vaults from the 11th century AD.

From the mound you go down and go through a nice technical descent, not too difficult, but which causes Ronen to give everyone instructions about the connection so that there will be no unexpected surprises.

They all pass safely and cross the valley in a northeasterly direction.

Dozens of black squirrels - winter day predators in the country now - greet us as they land on irrigation facilities in the open fields.

The ascent to Mount Atzmon - 547 meters above sea level - one of the significant mountains in the Yodfat ridge will begin immediately, at the foot of which lies the village of Manda, which preserves the name of the Jewish village of Mandei from the Second Temple period.

At the end of the ascent, we have a great view to the south of the valley, with a mountain rising above it and also the blue Netofa canal from the national carrier, which is about 17 km long, and divides the valley from east to west and ends in a cluster reservoir.

Ways not commonly known.

A vehicle of the "most expensive" - but do not forget the values

On one of the peaks in the Yodfat ridge - Mount of the Brethren - named after two brave brothers from the village of Shabi (now the Muslim She'ab) - we stopped for a lunch break. kindness goes out and starts to pick up trash around. fun to watch even when traveling in a vehicle of "Hbiokr" - not forgetting the values and what really matters.

at the end of the meal, and coffee and tea Ronen lays on the table, we begin descent back to the valley and aiming to finish in the village Eilabun Pad Thai On the way, you pass Ein Netofa - a kind of water that flows into water today, but provides a pleasant view to the south.

When there is a more difficult transition, instructions are received in connection.

An experience that breaks stigmas

That is, already after noon and after quite a few hours in the car, you start wanting to get out of this big box, pleasant as it may be, or as my friend said: "It's like sitting in your living room, and walking," and he is right.

The indulgences that Discovery has, the comfort, the many compartments, the great offenses that include driving conditions in mud, terrain, water and even snow, make this trip a real pan.

There is no doubt that the experience of walking like me, who prefers to know the area on foot, was refreshing and breaks stigmas.

Even the anti-jeeps I had softened a bit, especially when I saw that they kept constantly driving for me 4X4, without deviating from the road, and also the relative quiet that these vehicles have unlike ATVs or SUVs, kept my level of antagonism to a minimum.

The price of a trip to the Land Rover Club is quite affordable and stands at NIS 280 per car, and if you have seven people in the car, that means NIS 40 per head.

Not bad.

Now you just have to buy a Land Rover SUV - a matter of a few hundred thousand shekels.

In small.
