K-pop band BTS triumphs at MTV EMA awards

The 27th edition of the MTV EMA Awards, the European version of the world's most famous music television awards, was dispersed around the globe on Sunday night to comply with security protocols against the coronavirus.

There was no previous carpet, nor a track full of spectators cheering on their idols.

The fans were at their homes.

The artists invited to the gala performed and collected the awards from different cities in a ceremony that reconfirmed the k-pop band BTS as the most recent global pop phenomenon, with four awards.

The

South Korean

won the awards for best song, best group, best live

and best fans with its mix of electronic music,

, rap and the sound of video games.

It is the

version

- its audience does not usually exceed 20 years - of the groups that in the late nineties and early 2000s lined the portfolios of thousands of teenagers, such as the Backstreet Boys and Spice Girls.

It was not the only occasion in which Spanish was heard at the gala.

Maluma, also a reggaeton and Colombian, premiered on the MTV EMA with a mix of his greatest hits, also in a performance recorded from Miami.

And La La Love You won in the local category as the best Spanish band.

The gala combined previously recorded performances with live performances, such as DJ David Guetta - best electronics artist - with a cascade of lights at Széchenyi, Europe's largest thermal baths, in Budapest.

The capital of Hungary will be chosen for, if the pandemic allows it, to celebrate the next edition of the MTV EMA, in 2021.

Lady Gaga was chosen as the best artist and DJ Khaled won the award for best video by

, in collaboration with Drake and Justin Bieber, in a ceremony in which they paid tribute to Eddie Van Halen, leader of the group that bears his last name, Van Halen, for almost 50 years.

The musician died at age 65 last October from throat cancer.
