Turkey: Minister of Finance resigns

Turkey's Treasury and Finance Minister Berat Albayrak, son-in-law of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, resigned today for "health reasons". (HANDLE)


(ANSA) - ROME, NOV 08 - The Minister of Treasury and Finance of Turkey, Berat Albayrak, son-in-law of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, resigned today for "health reasons".


   This was announced by the minister himself through his Instagram account and the resignation was later confirmed by the media.

The announcement follows President Erdogan's decision yesterday to replace the central bank governor.

"After holding ministerial positions for five years, I made the decision not to continue with my service as Minister of Finance, due to health problems", Berat Albayarak wrote, adding that he wanted to spend more time with his family, "neglected for many years of necessity ".


   After the announcement of his resignation, his Twitter account was deleted.


    Albayarak was appointed Minister of Energy in 2015, a position he held until 2018, when he assumed the leadership of the most important economic department.
