The Municipality of Genoa will get to work to identify an area to be allocated to the creation of a cemetery dedicated to pets.
The meeting of the city council approved a motion presented by Federico Bertorello (Lega), Franco De Benedictis and Alberto Campanella (Fdi) who invited the mayor and the council to implement all the appropriate tools for the creation of a cemetery for animals .
The motion was approved unanimously.
To get to the new structure, the motion reads, it will also be necessary to promote a feasibility project to be delegated to the technical offices with the involvement of local voluntary associations operating in defense of animals, and to establish functional services and infrastructures, for example an oven. crematorium, whose construction and management will be free of charge for the institution, perhaps through the concession to private individuals.
The motion also assumes the creation of variable tariffs by income bracket.
The new councilor for cemeteries Massimo Nicolò, presenting a favorable opinion, recalled that it should still be the remains contained in cinerary urns.
On the subject, from June 2020, there is a regional law that provides that pets can be buried together with their owners in graves or niches.
Since 2015, another specific law had established real animal cemeteries but the provision has never found application precisely due to the difficulty of easily finding suitable spaces and the economic constraints of the Municipalities.
