“One of the main reasons we came is that the site inspired 'Avatar'.
The film really marked us.
And it's true that it's beautiful, ”explains Qiao Ke, a tourist who came to Zhangjiajie.
With the panoramic elevator located in this forest park in central China, it is possible to immerse yourself in the dreamlike universe of the 2009 film. Zhangjiajie Natural Site in Hunan Province has become world famous for having inspired the sets of Pandora, the fictional planet of "Avatar", the blockbuster of James Cameron.
Listed as a Unesco World Heritage Site, the area is dominated by thousands of quartz sandstone pillars, many of which exceed 200m in height. To admire the view, the three panoramic cabins of the Bailong Elevator rise up to 326m, making it the highest outdoor elevator in the world. Every day, more than 8,000 visitors use this elevator "to go to the top of the mountain or to local villagers to go down", explains the director of Zhangjiajie Bailong Elevator Tourism Development.
