We can buy our Christmas trees from this Friday. Health crisis requires, it took no less than a decree to make it poss

Phew for New Year's Eve, we can put the gifts at the foot of a spruce or a Nordmann.

This Thursday morning the "fir" decree was promulgated in the "Official Journal" (JO), it authorizes the sale of these trees as of Friday, November 20.

Despite the closure of shops and non-essential departments during this period of confinement, the government wanted to make an exception for this must-have for the end of the year celebrations "subject to conditions, for establishments that cannot accommodate the public, whether it is carried out as part of their delivery, order pick-up or outside activities ”, specifies the text published in the Official Journal.

Florists such as supermarkets, garden centers, DIY stores that are already open will therefore be authorized to sell fir trees, and “Christmas trees” in general.

The legislator will not have wanted to turn into a botanist by listing the authorized species, but not sure that the exception works for an orange tree to be decorated with flashing lights.

It will not be necessary to reserve your coniferous tree, you can buy it in click & collect or simply on a whim by going to the store provided that the merchant exhibits his most beautiful trees in the open air.

The Minister of Agriculture, Julien Denormandie had already spoken on this thorny question with our colleagues from RMC.

“In the health crisis we are facing, it's still easier to organize this sale of trees since in most cases it is done outside,” he explained.

A mocked text on social networks

On social networks, many mock this official text signed by no less than four ministers including Prime Minister Jean Castex and Minister of Health Olivier Véran.

"But where are we?

A decree to be able to buy a Christmas tree?

And for Christmas balls, will the garlands be ministerial orders?

»Jokes one of the tweeters.

For the producers of French fir trees hitherto worried at the approach of D-Day, the decree makes a very nice gift: “We are reassured, happy and at the same time proud, exults Frédéric Naudet, president of the Association Française du Sapin. of Natural Christmas (AFSNN).

The Morvan sylviculturist took part this Thursday in the traditional cutting of the tree that will decorate the Elysee.

We are more than in the starting blocks, he adds.

100% of our sales are done in one month and in two weeks it's over for our production part.

Unfortunately we have not yet found a way to sell Easter or July 14 trees ”.
