The Nocturne in G flat major, which later became opera 70, was composed between 1888 and 1891. In this piece, as in other similar ones, Martucci is able to express his intimate mood with greater formal freedom than the symphonies. and melancholy.
the Notturno presents an enchanted and captivating melodic line, which makes it similar to similar masterful examples provided by Italian opera players such as Mascagni and Puccini, and which has ensured a continuous presence in concert programs all over the world.
The symphonic cycle started by Tchaikovsky closes with the Sixth Symphony.
When he composed it, the Russian author was in a situation of severe prostration that would have led him to tragically end his existence (1893), only nine days after the first performance of the last work, considered by scholars a sort of Requiem written for himself.
It is no coincidence that the Symphony begins with a sad and gloomy melody, and then - after a sentimental theme that has become an emblem of romantic music, a true love theme follows, a second movement danced in the form of a waltz and a vital, almost Dionysian joke, and finally an "Adagio Lamentoso".
