Good news in the war on corona disease: The Ministry of Health reached an agreement today (Friday) with the British pharmaceutical company Astra-Zenika, and the latest details are currently being closed ahead of the signing of an agreement to purchase millions of vaccines from British society and Oxford University against corona.

According to the agreement, Astra-Zenica will supply Israel with about ten million doses of vaccine against the corona virus (AZD1222), which are intended for about five million citizens.

The vaccine will be sold to Israel in a non-profit model during the epidemic.

The agreement includes the supply of the largest amount of vaccines to reach Israel.

The initial supply is expected to arrive in Israel in the first half of 2021, subject to the approvals of the regulatory authorities in Europe, the United States and Israel.

Astrazenica is one of the leading pharmaceutical companies in the world and in recent days has published encouraging results regarding the effectiveness of the vaccine in the elderly population.

The State of Israel is in advanced contacts with other companies with the intention that every citizen who wishes to be vaccinated will be able to do so with the vaccines from the leading companies in the world.

The Ministry of Health wanted to clarify that in contrast to incorrect publications in the media, Israeli citizens will not be required to be vaccinated, but the state will make sure to make available to them the option of getting vaccinated if they choose to do so.

"Achievement for Israel"

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu welcomed the agreement and said: "Another important achievement for the citizens of Israel. My policy is that anyone who wants to be vaccinated will have the opportunity to be vaccinated. Overpreparation is better than lack of preparedness. And as soon as possible. "

Health Minister Yuli (Yoel) Edelstein also congratulated the achievement on the Israeli health system and said: "A strategic effort of many months pays off! The State of Israel today stands with vaccination agreements of the leading companies in the world. "I hope we eradicate the virus as soon as possible. Until then, we must not be complacent. We must adhere to the guidelines - mask, distance and hygiene."

Ohad Goldberg, CEO of Astra-Zenika Israel, said: "This is a historic agreement led by the company's local representation that will make the vaccine accessible to millions of Israeli citizens as part of an international policy for equal and comprehensive access worldwide.

As part of the company's commitment to public health, Astraznica will provide the vaccines in a 'non-profit' model during the epidemic and will continue to work closely with health authorities around the world, including the Israeli Ministry of Health.

The company has built an unprecedented mass production system around the world in order to meet the fast and extensive production capabilities, and at the same time the company continues its research to ensure the safety and efficiency of the AZD1222.

We are proud of the mobilization of society, as well as of the entire biopharmaceutical industry, to help and save lives while reducing the severe, social and economic impacts of this global epidemic. "
