The G20 raises the economic alarm.

Underlining the importance of education "in times of crisis", the leaders of the 20 most industrialized countries in the world pledge to "continue to use all the tools at their disposal" in support of an "uncertain" global recovery on which they weigh " high downside risks ".

The containment of the virus, says the G20 in the final statement, "is essential to support" the economy, which is affected by the new increase in cases and the new restrictions imposed in various countries.

Faced with a troubled recovery, "a multilateral trading system is more important than ever", just as infrastructure is essential as a "growth driver".

"We continue our efforts to facilitate the travel and tourism sectors recover from the pandemic," adds the G20.

Vaccines play a key role in containing Covid.

The world's greats pledge to "spare no effort for equal access to vaccines, treatments and diagnostics for all", saying they are ready to respond to "the financial needs" for the distribution of vaccines.

But after the summit it was Chancellor Angela Merkel who turned up her nose, saying she was "worried" about the slow pace of discussions on poor countries' access to the anti-Covid vaccine.

The G20 then stressed the importance of "continuity of education in times of crisis through the implementation of measures to ensure in-person learning, effective quality of distance learning and a mix of" the two " as appropriate ".

"Inclusive, equitable and quality education for all is essential for a better future and for combating inequalities".

The big names also give a hint to women, affected in a "disproportionate" way by the crisis: "We will work not to widen gender inequalities" and to ensure that the pandemic "does not jeopardize the progress of recent decades".
