(ANSA) - TEL AVIV, NOV 22 - Israeli Prime Minister BenyaminNetanyahu and Israeli President Reuven Rivlin hailed the definitive release in the US of Jonathan Pollarded and said they await him soon in Israel.
Pollard, a former US naval intelligence analyst, was charged and sentenced to life in 1985 for spying on Israel's behalf and passing sensitive information to the Jewish state.
A succession that undermined iron relations between the two countries.
After serving 30 years in prison, Pollard was released on probation 5 years ago with a bracelet requirement and unable to leave the country. Last Friday, the Department of Justice certified the end of the period of free surveillance. Now the final decision on the possibility of leaving the US is expected. Netanyahu's office recalled that "the premier has always been committed to the release of Pollarde who has worked tirelessly for his return". (HANDLE).
