A special copy of the "Double Fantasy" album by music legend John Lennon is now to be auctioned.

The album is a macabre piece of music history: Lennon is said to have signed it in December 1980 for Mark David Chapman - his killer.

The cover shows Lennon and his wife Yoko Ono kissing.

Lennon signed with a thin blue pen.

A few hours later, Chapman shot the musician in front of his Manhattan residence.

Chapman put the album in one of the planters in front of the entrance to the Dakota residential complex on the Upper West Side, writes the auction house.

A passerby later found it there and handed it over to the police.

In addition to the signature, police evidence markings can also be seen on the album.

The starting bid for the auction, which is scheduled to begin on Monday, is $ 400,000.
