The consultant from the Ministry of Health: 'Opening only when the decrease in cases begins. The vaccine will be evaluated first for safety and then for its protective capacity '(ANSA)

"At the moment, the pressure on hospitals throughout Italy is terrible: in just one month, 27,000 doctors and nurses became infected, 900 a day, if this pressure continues, it not only makes it impossible to treat patients but it leaves the front line" .

So "it is absolutely necessary to limit mobility as much as possible and to do only the things that are really needed, everything else for the next month must be absolutely limited".

Walter Ricciardi, professor of hygiene at the Catholic University and consultant of the Ministry of Health, said this during the Agorà broadcast on Rai 3.

"The measures are working because they are a function of the different epidemiological situations" but "we must persevere", Ricciardi later said, underlining that "we have reversed the increase, we now expect the curve to flatten", but only "when there will be. a real decrease in cases, we can talk about reopening or a return to a more normal situation ".

"What is really worrying", Ricciardi pointed out, "is an important increase in hospitalizations in the emergency room and in sub-intensive care, and deaths: those are the main data that we must look at and that still show that we must be calm for at least a month. , rational and lucid and knowing that we have to face all this ".

In Italy today, he specified, "we are not in a second wave but in the second phase of the first wave because, unlike China, we have never zeroed out the infections".

On the 21 indicators for monitoring the regional situation he says: "everything can be improved, it is a war and weapons must be adapted".

What we have to invest in now is "very aggressive testing and tracking to limit outbreaks and a lockdown when we lose control".

"We have to wait for the companies to officially submit the data to the EMA and the FDA and I hope their data are confirmed by the official authorization".

But "there is no doubt that the Covid vaccine will be evaluated like all vaccines in the past, first of all for safety and then for protective capacity", added Ricciardi.

For the distribution chain, "the regions will choose, depending on size and logistics, the best way. The smaller ones could have a single hub and then the facilities where vaccinations are made, for larger ones there will be more. has all the capacity to do this distribution plan well. "
