Around 34,000 people work in the professional fire service in Germany.
This is proven by figures from the German Fire Brigade Association from 2018. Most of them do their job as civil servants.
Accordingly, their
salary
depends on whether they are classified in the middle, upper or higher service.
The categorization is based on the level of training and seniority.
However, there are differences from state to state.
For example, a

as a beginner in the
middle service, salary level A7

receives
around 2,600 euros in Bavaria, while in Hesse only around 2,300 euros are paid.

, Bavarian firefighters earn around 2,800 euros, in Hesse only 2,640 euros.
