An important announcement regarding the Russian coronavirus vaccine is expected this Tuesday.
One of the central issues on which awaits confirmation is the
market value of the Sputnik V
.
According to Kirill Dmitriev, president of the Russian Fund for Direct Investments (FRID), it will be
much cheaper
than American alternatives.
Another novelty would have to do with the agreements for the production of the doses.
The virtual event, which will take place via Zoom, will be at 7.30am in Argentina (1.30pm Moscow time).
It is in charge of FRID, which summoned the press and stressed that it will spread
"great news
.
"
"Sputnik V will be
several times cheaper than the American ones,
" Kirill Dmitriev, head of FRID, said by videoconference.
It was in this context that he affirmed that
the price of Sputnik V
will
be announced
this week
and that it will be more accessible than the Pfizer and BioNTech vaccines, and that of Moderna.
In addition, he recalled that the Russian option has an
efficiency of 92%
.
"These are
very good results
. Anything above 50% is a very high level," he explained.
Russia is expected to start supplying the world with the vaccine between December and January.
Regarding the conservation and transfer of doses, Dmitriev assured that the
first batch of Sputnik V should be stored at 18 degrees below zero
(that of Pfizer is kept at 70 degrees below zero and that of Moderna at 20 below zero), but that from February
the situation will improve
.
This is due to a lyophilization technology, which will be used to dehydrate the vaccine.
"From February the bulk of the vaccines we will supply already with a
temperature between 2 and 8 degrees
. This will limit the transport restrictions," he said.
In addition, he stressed that they do not aspire for Sputnik V to be the only vaccine on the market, but to be part of a catalog of vaccines that will be distributed throughout the world.
"Only together can we defeat the coronavirus," he added.
Finally, he confirmed that Sputnik V
"has a demand of one billion people"
and that during 2021 "they will be able to produce doses for 500 million."
In this sense, those close to the Russian Fund stressed that another of the announcements may have to do with
the signing of contracts to formalize agreements with India, China, South Korea and Brazil
for the production of the necessary doses to cover demand outside of Russia.
Weeks ago, President Alberto Fernández announced an agreement with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, for the purchase of
25 million doses
of this vaccine, once it is approved.
This would allow to immunize 12.5 million people, since each patient must receive two doses.
According to the president himself, the first batch would arrive in December and the second in January.
