The sixth edition of the Rome MED- Mediterranean Dialogues Conference begins on Wednesday, promoted starting from 2015 by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and by Ispi, which will be held this year in digital format (ANSA)


(ANSA) - ROME, NOVEMBER 24 - The sixth edition of the Rome MED- Mediterranean Dialogues Conference begins Wednesday, promoted starting from 2015 by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and ISPI, which will be held this year in digital format and includes over 40 virtual events from 25 November to 4 December 2020.


    The conference opens with a speech on the web platform by Luigi Di Maio, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and Giampiero Massolo, President of Ispi.

The President of the Council of Ministers Giuseppe Conte will close the MED Dialogues on Friday 4 December.

    The Conference sees the participation of exponents of major international organizations, academics, entrepreneurs as well as scholars and experts from all over the world, with over 40 political leaders including presidents, prime ministers and ministers from various international realities.

Participants include: Sergey Lavrov, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Russia;

Paolo Gentiloni, EU Commissioner for Economic and Monetary Affairs;

Ylva Johansson, Commissioner for Home Affairs;

Mohammad Javad Zarif, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran;

Prince Faisal Bin Farhan Al Saud, Saudi Minister of Foreign Affairs;

Ahmed Maitig, vice-president of the Libyan presidential council.


    MED Dialogues 2020 intends, even in a pandemic era, to develop a "positive agenda" for the Mediterranean, developing possible shared solutions to health, economic and political risks that could prove to be more serious and heavier than the rest of the world.

Among the strategic issues at the center of the debate are the main security challenges, the difficult management of the migratory phenomenon in a period of pandemic, the fate of the younger generations, the revolution in the world of energy, the opportunities posed by the transition to an economy green and sustainable, the strategic role of women in the Mediterranean area and their contribution to social and economic growth.

Strategic for the Mediterranean area is undoubtedly also the reflection on the Euro-Mediterranean partnership, on the role of NATO as well as on the strategies in the area of ​​countries such as the United States, the Gulf countries, Russia, China, India and Japan.


    To strengthen the contribution of ideas and proposals, 28 digital meetings have been organized in recent months with international personalities of the highest level to discuss the reality of key countries in the area such as Syria, Libya, Israel, Palestine, Yemen and Iran.

Strategic issues such as the role of Europe, green energy and migration were also at the center of the debate.
