Kaavan is saved.
After years of abuse in an Islamabad zoo and a campaign led by American singer Cher, the elephant's transfer to a reserve in Cambodia began this Sunday.
"My wishes have finally come true," the singer said in a statement, thanking the charity Free The Wild.
The artist has contributed financially to this transfer and must fly this Sunday to Cambodia to be in the country when the elephant arrives.
Kaavan, 35, has been dubbed the loneliest elephant in the world. He is obese, abused and suffers from mental disorders. His fate moved the international community. The case of the elephant and the deplorable state of the zoo in the Pakistani capital have led a magistrate to order this year that all animals be transferred from it. All over Pakistan, zoos are distinguished by their poor facilities and poor animal care.
