In wind and weather, a wooden penis rose up on the Grünten in Oberallgäu for years.

But on the weekend, the striking sculpture mysteriously disappeared.

From the phallus representation, only the stump and wood shavings remain, as the "Allgäuer Zeitung" reported.

"Somebody must have sawed it down in a night-and-fog operation," the tenant of the nearby Grüntenhütte told the paper.

On Saturday evening, the phallic symbol was still clearly visible from her hut, the tenant said.

The newspaper writes of an "emasculation" on the 1738 meter high mountain near Rettenberg.

The police are now also concerned with the disappearance.

Pro forma an investigation has now been initiated, said Holger Stabik from the Presidium in Kempten.

But one is still faced with a riddle: "We don't know whether it is a criminal offense or not."

According to the police, there is still no victim

So far, according to Stabik, not even the owner of the sculpture is known.

So there is still no injured party.

Perhaps the owner picked up the two-meter penis himself.

Nonetheless, every hint will be followed up, but none have yet been received.

A few weeks ago, the penis caused a stir after falling over.

Rettenberg's mayor, Nikolaus Weißinger, calmed people's minds at the time: no one had been harmed by the lack of “steadfastness”.

The sculpture, carved from a trunk, was erected again.

The fact that it has now completely disappeared is "a shame," as the CSU politician Weißinger told the "Allgäuer Zeitung".

It is not known who brought the wooden penis up the mountain years ago.

In the meantime, however, the location of the sculpture, which is on private land, has been designated as a “cultural monument” by the online map service Google Maps.
