In the video: Meet the volunteers of the Nature and Parks Authority (Nature and Parks Authority)

Nature does so much for us, but what do we do for it?

In the ninth episode of "A Quarter to Nature", Yiftach and Idan went out to meet the people who help nature (almost) like them - the volunteers of the Nature and Parks Authority and of course, say thank you.

This week, in preparation for International Volunteer Day, which is celebrated every year on December 5, the Nature and Parks Authority also celebrates the annual week of appreciation for volunteers who work with it, every day and almost every hour, for nature.

This is also a great time to get to know this volunteer activity up close.

The Nature and Parks Authority employs over 1,000 permanent volunteers who assist the authority's employees throughout the country in preserving nature and heritage in Israel.

These work in guiding and guiding hikers in nature reserves and national parks, eradicating invasive plant species that cause damage to local nature, rescuing and caring for wildlife, joint tours with PA inspectors and outreach and cleanup operations of open spaces to preserve scenery and wildlife.

This elite group of volunteers carries out its activities in accordance with its availability and in accordance with its current tasks, and it is undoubtedly a force multiplier in the work of the Nature and Heritage Authority in Israel.

The regular group of volunteers is also joined by volunteers who come for one day of volunteering and their contribution is no less important.

Sharon Golan Hershkovitz, Director of Volunteering at the Nature and Parks Authority, notes that "Every year tens of thousands of people come as part of organized groups to volunteer for one day around a specific task or area. Fortunately, we receive great support from groups and people who want to participate. "Nature and heritage in Israel. It is also important for us in the PA to expose as many people as possible to the story of nature conservation and to involve as many people as possible in this work."

The mutual need for volunteers for nature on the one hand and the willingness of volunteers to help nature makes the one-day volunteering route a highly sought-after route by many groups including business companies, groups of soldiers, pre-military preparatory schools, youth movements, families and more.

People who come to give their time but along the way also get a lot.

This is also the reason why in recent years the Nature and Parks Authority has worked hard to further institutionalize the field of volunteering in the authority and make it more widely and experientially accessible to a variety of relevant audiences.

Enjoy nature, together with friends and family and also do something good for it.

Golan Hershkowitz concludes that "many studies indicate that the keys to happiness are, among other things, staying and hiking in nature, in the environment of good friends and people and with a good and fascinating purpose to get up in the morning. This is the special and combined bonus that our volunteers receive. "Their activity is beyond the blessed daily connection and this is, among other things, the goal of the annual volunteer week that we mark in the Nature and Parks Authority."
