Because he is said to have almost killed an old woman in a burglary with a spade, the Erfurt district court sentenced a man to a total imprisonment of 13 years and six months.
The 42-year-old was guilty of attempted murder in unity with dangerous bodily harm and particularly serious robbery, according to the verdict.
The decision also took into account a number of home burglaries, which the man had also been charged with.
The man had injured the then 89-year-old with at least two powerful blows with the spade blade and at least accepted her death approvingly, as stated in the judgment.
Then he searched the house and took a jewelry box.
The woman barely survived.
According to the judges, there were indications that the man was responsible.
In addition to traces of his DNA, an evaluation of the cell phone revealed that at the time of the crime he had been logged into the radio cell in which the crime scene is located.
The defendant, however, had always vehemently denied the act.
The man had all admitted to the other break-ins that he had been accused of.
The judgment is not yet final (
AZ: 1 Ks 170 Js 26069/19
).
