Russia: media, open investigation into Navalny's words on the radio

Law enforcement agencies are evaluating whether the remarks made by Alexei Navalny during a radio broadcast on Ekho Moskvy on April 27 could contain an appeal to overthrow the political system in Russia. (HANDLE)


(ANSA) - MOSCOW, DEC 1 - The police are evaluating the observations expressed by Alexei Navalny during a radio broadcast on 27 April last on the Ekho Moskvy station that they may contain an appeal to overthrow the political system in Russia.

This was stated by a source to Interfax.


    "An investigation into AlexeiNavalny's remarks was opened yesterday, when he expressed his opinion on the potential need to change the constitutional system in the Russian Federation, including through violence," said lafonte.

The investigation is ongoing in accordance with the article "Public appeal to extremist activity through the media" of the Russian Criminal Code.

At the same time, the source considers it unlikely the possibility of opening a criminal case.


    Interfax does not yet have an official confirmation.

The relevant article of the Russian penal code provides for a sentence of up to five years in prison.

"After trying to kill me now Vladimir Putin wants to keep me out of Russia," Navalny wrote on Instagram.
