The former Oasis singer abandoned the image of the bad boy and released a Christmas song, a Beatles piano ballad about the moon and love
"All You're Dreaming Of," Liam Gallagher
Once upon a time Christmas singles were a pretty lucrative affair.
Once a year, during the Christian holidays, an artist would put out a song completely detached from his discography, and just like a gift, he would give his fans a song that is all holiday spirit (and kitsch).
History has known quite a few holiday singles that have become classics, from Wam!
And to "All I want for Christmas is You" by Mariah Carey.
Even Oasis, not the first name that comes to mind when thinking of Santa Claus, is signed to one of the most beloved and best-selling Christmas singles in history: the orchestral "Whatever."
So Liam Gallagher, the band's former lead singer and arguably the most impressive comeback story of the decade, is no stranger to the concept.
And being an Old School artist fond of past traditions, he too saw fit to release this year a work in the spirit of the holidays.
"It's a perfect song for this time of year," the singer said of "All You're Dreaming Of," his new special song, and in his typical Liam's way defined it as an "instant classic."
"Given the year we have all had, I hope he will return a much-needed love and hope. Bing Crosby must have been proud," he added.
It is no coincidence that Gallagher mentioned Crosby's name.
In "Everything You Dream of" the rockstar presents the soft side of his musical personality, in a piano ballad that talks about the moon, love, the sky of a cold night and one miracle that is sometimes "everything you need to carry you".
As with a number of other hits the musician has released since regaining consciousness (and suddenly bypassing his brother Noel on a tour in terms of popularity and solo careers), this time too Liam enlisted the help of Simon Eldred's textual services.
The two co-wrote a gentle Beatles anthem for difficult days, which promises love "to be there when the world is in its worst state."
Judging by the UK charts, in which the song reached 12th place immediately after its release, it seems that it is definitely a contender for first place in the title of "Single Christmas of the Year", the results of which will be announced on Christmas day.
Even if he does not win (he faces heavyweight competitors such as Ariana Grande and Justin Bieber), at least we got a heartwarming song for the winter months, all proceeds of which will be donated to charities for children.
