More than 15 years that fans of "Harry Potter" waited for her to take up the pen for the youth. JK Rowling returns with a fantasy tale

Do you know the "Harry Potters" by heart and are impatient to have in your hands a new children's novel by JK Rowling?

"The Ickabog" which hits bookstores on December 3 and is aimed at a younger audience (from 8 years old) should appeal to Muggles by the thousands.

Here are the five things you should know before buying it.

The richest woman in Britain

For 22 years, we never tire of telling his incredible story worthy of the most beautiful fairy tales.

Because it is thanks to her incredible talent as a storyteller, her sense of vocabulary, her wild imagination that the writer has revolutionized children's literature around the world.

A young unemployed woman raising her child on her own, in just ten years she has become the richest woman in the British kingdom.

Small reminder: "Harry Potter" is 7 volumes translated into 80 languages, sold over 500 million copies and adapted into 8 films.

Not to mention the thousands of derivative products.

64 episodes erased during confinement

“The Ickabog” is a tale that the author imagined ten years ago for her youngest children.

A story she told them in the evening, during those little magical bedtime moments.

JK Rowling was already a star of children's literature and the last volume of "Harry Potter" had not yet been published.

When, in the spring, the coronavirus crisis confines thousands of children, she has the idea to offer them this story.

In "a united approach in the face of the pandemic", she regularly posted the 64 episodes of the tale online for free.

She also pledged to donate all of her rights to associations helping those who have suffered the most from Covid-19.

Introduction to "fake news"

Traveling to the kingdom of Cornucopia by immersing yourself in the "Ickabog" is to undertake a journey full of surprises for young and old and highly regressive for parents or readers without children.

Because this novel is a tale that reminds us of the great classics even if it does not start with "Once upon a time ..." At the same time, this book shows a crazy modernity, by staging a plot built around 'an XXL lie, of large-scale “fake news”.

It is also an ode to free will and a pamphlet against one thought.

Above all, “the Ickabog” takes the reader into a world of wonders where one quickly becomes attached to the characters and which touches us from the first twists and turns.

We even salivate when reading the descriptions of local sweets called Nacelles-de-Fées or Espoirs-du-Paradis.

A perfect gift for Christmas.

A translation signed Clémentine Beauvais

Harry Potter readers know that JK Rowling loves to invent words and his quill is magical.

For "the Ickabog", the historical translator of "Harry Potter", Jean-François Ménard, not being available, Gallimard Jeunesse entrusted the translation of the novel to Clémentine Beauvais, another great pen of children's literature, who is also a teacher and researcher in educational sciences at York University in Great Britain.

A real challenge that the novelist of the "Little Queens", of "Dream of Sweetness" or of "Tender Age" has taken up hands down.

In English, as in French, the writing is fluid and plunges the reader with delight in this strange little kingdom so British.

Real children's drawings

They and they are called Jeanne, Hubert, Sara, Anna, Pauline or Siham, are between 8 and 12 years old and all are part of the 64 lucky winners who illustrated “The Ickabog” in French version.

Each of their drawing was chosen for one of the chapters of the novel.

It was JK Rowling who had the idea to launch this contest for the English edition.

Gallimard took up the concept for the French speaker and the result is very successful.

A small regret: that the drawings are relegated to the end of the book.

Especially that of Flore, 7 years old, our favorite which represents a big and immense Ickabog all green and too cute.
