In Austria, in view of the Christmas holidays, the obligation of quarantine is triggered for those arriving from abroad.
It will no longer be enough, as up to now, to have done a negative swab over the last 72 hours.
There will be exceptions for cross-border commuters and business travel, but there will be no "New Year's Eve in Prague" or "visiting relatives in the Balkans", stressed Chancellor Sebastian Kurz.
According to Kurz, a third of the infections of the second wave were "imported".
The ski lifts will reopen on 24 December, but only for residents, while the hotels will remain closed until 6 January. This was announced by the government at a press conference. After the total lockdown on Monday compulsory schools will reopen, as well as the last year of high school. The shops will also reopen, while at 8 pm the curfew will start until 6 am. A maximum of ten diners has been set for the Christmas holidays.
