The National Education published this Thursday evening the report of the two inspectors general, in charge of the administrative investigation on the days preceding the assassination of Samuel Paty, on October 16, at the college of Bois d'Aulne in Conflans-Sainte -Honorine (Yvelines).
The 20-page document recounts, seen from inside this quiet establishment of 750 students and 51 teachers, the process that began during the history-geography teacher's course on freedom of expression on 5 October.
It shows in particular that the rumors that swelled in the college and outside following this sequence, on social networks, alerted the principal very early on.
The latter, worried about the professor, went to his home on the Friday before the tragedy, with another teacher, to make sure he was okay.
“After school, fearing a risk of a demonstration in front of the college, the principal does not want Samuel Paty to go home alone, on foot.
She tries to contact him, he is no longer present at the college […] ”can be read in the report.

"A mistake" to have suggested to students to go out
According to the report, the principal also informed her hierarchy, territorial intelligence and the police of the instrumentalisation of the case by a family from the college.
Despite the alarm bells, sounded and passed on to the different levels of the national education hierarchy, no police protection was triggered in reaction to the threats of disturbances and demonstrations.

In addition, the report shows that the inspector specializing in secularism issues, sent to college to support the educational team, qualified as "a mistake" the fact that Samuel Paty offered in his course, to students who could feeling shocked by a caricature of Muhammad, going out into the hallway.
“The fact of having shown caricatures is not questioned;
on the other hand, having made students leave to spare them the sight of the cartoons, even with the best intentions and within the framework of a constructed educational process, is a mistake, ”reports the document, which also confirms that the subject gave rise to lively debates between teachers.
And a climate of fear for several days in the teachers' rooms.
Better monitor social networks
The report concludes with twelve proposals intended to improve incident management in establishments.
In particular, he recommends increasing the links between the services of the Interior and National Education, by setting up a joint watch unit between academies and prefectures when incidents occur in an establishment.
He also proposes to create a social media monitoring team in the rectors, to better identify the development of rumors concerning teachers or students.
In Conflans-Sainte-Honorine, relates the report, it is by a local representative of the parents of FCPE students, and by a teacher, that the establishment was alerted to hate videos circulating against Samuel Paty.
