The auto and motorcycle magazine market continues to restructure.
While it remains dominated in France by Reworld Media, owner of leading titles (
Auto Plus, Auto Moto, L'Auto-Journal, etc.
) resulting from acquisitions from Lagardère and Mondadori, several changes of hand are redrawing the map on the periphery. of this press segment.
Three publishers, Philippe Abreu (formerly Turf Éditions), François Tauriac (formerly
TV Magazine
) and Vincent Ham (Alain Ayache), have just formed a small group around five titles in the category.
These connoisseurs of the press (and car enthusiasts) bought from their founder Fabrice Roux the companies 6 Pack Publishing and Hero & Co, editors of
Auto Heroes
,
Moto Heroes
,
Freeway
,
Petrol Head
and
Road Trip
.
For the most part, these are quarterly magazines, sold between 5 and 10 euros, which sell on average between 10,000 and 20,000 copies, or niche titles but which show good resistance to the erosion of newspaper sales.
The trio of publishers has created to bring them together the Heroes Media group which will be chaired by Philippe Abreu and of which François Tauriac will be the editorial director.
With a turnover of between 5 and 6 million euros, Heroes Media claims a cumulative circulation of 500,000 copies (for around thirty publications per year) and two million readers.
Dismantling of the Hommell group
The new small group also managed, this Friday, to take back at the helm of the commercial court of Nanterre three other titles, those from the portfolio of the former Hommell group being dismantled.
After having sold its main magazine,
Télécâble Sat Hebdo,
to German Bauer last year, the magazine publishing group founded in 1968 by former racing driver Michel Hommell was in fact led to liquidate its established automotive division. by a dozen titles.
Heroes Media should pick up three:
Speedster
(for Porsche enthusiasts),
Super VW
and
Combi
.
These last two titles, known to fans of independent travel (vans), are complementary to
Road Trip
.
If Heroes Media is a newcomer to the landscape, with ambitions of digital deployment and creation of services, another existing group, Larivière, is establishing itself a little more in this market for car and motorcycle titles.
Already owner in this niche of
4x4 Magazine
,
Enduro
or
Moto Journal
, this group of "passion" magazines (
VTT Magazine
,
Jogging, Cheval Magazine
...) directed by Patrick and Stéphanie Casasnovas will take over most of the other titles of the auto sector. 'Hommell, in particular the monthly
Gazoline
(40,000 copies) dedicated to those who want to "experience the old car on a daily basis",
Échappement
(the first title created by Michel Hommell devoted to motor racing) or
2 CV Magazine
.
