 - Covid and close on travel will not take away from Italians the typical fish menu of Christmas Eve and December 31st.

It will be in the tables of 2 out of 3 houses, with an average expenditure of 70 euros per nucleus compared to 90 last year.

Fifteen million families will choose poor traditional recipes, with tuna, cod and sea bream for not too elaborate dishes.

The overall result is in any case a loss of € 300 million equal to 25%.

These are the estimates of PescAgri, the Italian Fishermen's Association of Cia, according to which the sector suffers in 2020 a decrease in turnover of over 40%.

Negative sign due to product surplus and drop in prices mainly due to restrictions on restaurants, catering and hotels.

To radically affect the consumption of fish during the holidays, explains AgriPesca-Cia, the impact of the Dpmc on dinners, strictly at home for no more than 6 people;

which will reduce quantities purchased by no more than an average of 3 kg per cart, there will be a tendency to be more precise in portions, but also to choose fresh fish.

So, little but good.

The typical dishes of the Christmas Eve more linked to the cuisine based on local products and therefore cod and tuna will win, but also anchovies, sardines and mackerel, sea bream and sea bass that will have the most on the most precious fish.

On the other hand, molluscs and crustaceans, protagonists of the tables in restaurants and hotels, will suffer.

Difficult, adds PescAgri-Cia, to think about small dinners for New Year's Eve but excluding catering, for the over 6 million Italians used to eating out on the 31st, home cooking will be inevitable.

The 15% of consumers inclined to take away menus will be of little use, a trend that is worth 5 billion, given that the restrictions imposed on Horeca have so far removed almost 41 billion from the agri-food sector.
