French super-designer

Pierre Cardin

passed away at the age of 98. Carden was a French-born French fashion designer known for his avant-garde style and fondness for geometric motifs, sometimes in contrast to the curves of a woman's body.

He promoted unisex fashion and was also known for the "bubble dress" he introduced in 1954.

Carden was identified with his modern designs and connection to space, one of the reasons why he was defined as innovative or as someone who thinks about the future.

He previously designed minimalist suits for the Beatles that replaced the traditional male suit and broke the boundaries of Europe into new markets, with exhibitions and events in China, Russia and India, long before it was accepted.

He founded his fashion house in 1950 and his fame began when he designed about thirty costumes for the "Party of the Century", a masquerade ball in Venice.

Carden was born Pietro Carden in San Biajo di Calalta, near Treviso and moved to Paris in 1945, where he studied architecture and worked with Jean-Faken.

He also worked with Elsa Schiaparelli until he became the chief designer of Christian Dior in 1947, but was fired from his job at the fashion house of Cristobal Balenciaga.
