MILAN - The traditional concert in Piazza Duomo will not be held on New Year's Eve in Milan due to restrictions due to Covid and so, to greet the beginning of the new year, the Municipality has thought of an event that can only be followed in streaming, from home, and that combines music, video installations and art.

Piazza Duomo will remain deserted, but citizens' thoughts for 2021 will animate and light it up, including the façade of the Cathedral, symbol of the city. The project by Felice Limosani and conductor Beatrice is called 'Illuminated Thoughts'. Venezi under the direction of Marco Boarino, which the Municipality has chosen to celebrate the arrival of the new year.

Until 31 December, everyone will be able to write a thought inspired by one of the three themes of the work on the website www.pensierilluminatimilano.it: creation, humanity and the future.

On the night of the 31st, thoughts will be transformed by the artist Felice Limosani into generative graphics, a stream of animated digital images projected onto the facade of the Duomo as a tribute to the citizens.

A collective story that will be staged with music directed by maestro Beatrice Venezi, performed by 52 elements of the 'I Pomeriggi Musicali' Orchestra, by the voice of soprano Francesca Manzo and with the words of the actors of the Paolo Grassi Civic School of Theater.

Midnight at the end of the year will be marked by a video installation narrated by the actor Alessandro Preziosi, thanks to the collaboration with the Veneranda Fabbrica del Duomo.

The show will involve the three symbolic places of Piazza Duomo: the Duomo, Palazzo Reale and the Museo del Novecento.

From midnight Beatrice Venezi will in fact conduct the 'I Pomeriggi Musicali' Orchestra from the Sala delle Cariatidi of the Royal Palace, an emblem of rebirth after the destruction it suffered in the Second World War, transformed into a room of light and projections.

The Councilor for Culture of the Municipality of Milan, Filippo Del Corno, during the press conference to present the event explained that "the performance will only be visible in streaming, nothing will happen in Piazza del Duomo on December 31 and I say this because the citizens fully respect the rules and remain in their homes ".

"This New Year will mark the year before and after Covid, we thought we had an attitude of great condolence and respect for the victims, to remind us of the health personnel to whom we will be forever grateful - underlined Felice Limosani -.

There will be nothing to celebrate but hope for the future. "'Illuminated Thoughts' will only be visible in streaming and will be broadcast from 10.30pm on 31 December 2020 on Live-now.com, Repubblica.it, YesMilano.it and Video platforms. .sky.it / art.
