A defective engine, no wind, no power for the radio: a British sailor got into an emergency last Thursday in the English Channel.
It was only by chance that a police boat found the floating yacht on Sunday and rescued the man.
As the BBC reports, the Kent police in the south-east of England discovered the sailboat during a routine patrol near the port city of Dover and towed it into the harbor.
The police shared a photo of the rescue operation on Twitter and wrote that the man was overjoyed.
His boat drifted around for three days and he had little hope of rescue.
The man had a radio on board, but no electricity, which meant that the device did not work.
After the engine failed, he would have hoisted a sail.
As the police announced, however, there was hardly any wind, which is why it was of no use to him.
