(ANSA) - FOGGIA, 14 JAN - Mario Nero, 58, was found dead in his home in northern Italy, under protection for ten years for having seen in the face and testified against the killer of Giovanni Panunzio the builder from Foggia murdered on November 6, 1992 in Foggia because he rebelled against the mafia and the lace.
To make it known in a post on Facebook was Antonio Belluna secretary of the Foggia association dedicated to the murdered builder.
"Nero was found dead in his home whose locality was not known for safety reasons - they know from the Panunzio association - he lived under protection for over ten years".
On the evening of the crime Nero saw Giovanni Panunzio's killer in the face, or Donato Delli Carri, who was then definitively sentenced to 26 years in prison.
"Investigations are underway to verify the causes of death", specifies the president of the Panunzio association, Dimitri Lioi, who also suggests that it was a natural event.
"Mario Nero - recalls the president - was among the promoters, together with the then undersecretary of justice Alfredo Mantua in the early 2000s, of the legislation to protect the witnesses of justice".
