Corona seems to have a dangerous side effect in Hessen.

The DAK anticipates an increase in the long-term effects of sugar diseases.

  • Corona * also has dangerous side effects: One of them affects people with

    diabetes

    .

  • The DAK

    carried out a special

    survey in

    Hessen

    .

  • There could

    be more foot amputations

    in the

    future

    .

Kassel - The

corona virus

is not only an immediate threat to

health

. More and more dangerous side effects of lockdown and fear of corona are emerging.

This is also confirmed by a special survey among those insured by the DAK-Hessen.

The study shows that

significantly fewer people were included in treatment programs for sugar diseases such as diabetes

during the

corona pandemic

.

The DAK

Hessen

sees the danger of an increase in serious secondary illnesses as a result.

Sugar in Hessen: Corona causes undersupply of the sick

The DAK Hessen has

made a special

Corona

evaluation among its members.

It turned out that as early as the first quarter of

2020,

the number of patients participating in a treatment program for

those suffering from sugar had fallen

by 23 percent compared to the same period of the previous year.

In the third quarter of 2020 there were even 31 percent fewer patients.

A sharp decline is also expected for the fourth quarter.

The data basis is provided by those insured by the DAK in Hessen.

  • Insured:

3.6 million (as of March 2020)

Corona in Hessen: Undersupply of diabetics poses a danger

With chronic sugar diseases such as

diabetes,

“normal” medical care is often not enough.

That is why there are special programs for these patients, so-called Disease Management Programs (DMP).

Without participation, the secondary illnesses are much more likely.

“If the patients do not take part in the DMP because they do not come to the practice for fear of corona, then they risk serious secondary diseases in the medium to long term.

We fear a noticeable increase in foot amputations in the future "

Sötkin Geitner - Head of the DAK state representation in Hesse.

DAK-Gesundheit calls on all diabetics to continue their treatments during the

corona pandemic

.

This is the only way to prevent serious long-term effects.

The hygiene concepts of the

doctor's offices

are also so good that a fear of visiting the doctor is unfounded.

The #Corona pandemic is also changing our diet and eating behavior.

Sugar in Germany: 7 million people are sick

According to the experts, there are various possibilities that make it possible to slow down, stop or even reverse the disease process of sugar diseases such as diabetes.

But for this they also have to be perceived.

For the continued success of these programs it is necessary that people are not afraid of a

corona infection

at the doctor's.

Around 7 million people in

Germany

are currently

infected

with

sugar

.

Most patients have type 2 diabetes.

This type is also called age sugar.

In order to determine your own risk level for a sugar disease, the DAK has made its own online test available on its website.
