And that means we have some difficult choices ahead of us.

These days, while we are locked in homes and experiencing a kind of “home learning,” the fund and importance of kindergarten in our lives and in our child’s life is rising.

It seems that many parents are waiting and waiting for the moment when the education staffs will be vaccinated and we will be able to return to our role in the home relationship - to be parents (which is also complex in itself) and return our child to the frameworks and traditions of the educators.

Meanwhile, the education system is already preparing for the next school year, and registration for kindergartens has begun, under uncertainty and the question of what the future holds for us.

So how do you choose a garden under corona restrictions?

What do our children really know and think about the corona?

To the full article

This year we have to choose the kindergartens without entering them or see what is going on inside, as parents are not allowed to enter the territory of educational frameworks.

Parents and educational staff are once again required to show creativity for introductory meetings and sales and selection explorations - from videos about the kindergarten, video calls in which a virtual tour is made, a zoom meeting for interested parents with a presentation and time for questions and conversations in the kindergarten yard.

Here are some tips to help you make the right choice, despite the challenges of the corona.

1. In the eyes of the observer:

When choosing a kindergarten, it is important to remember that what is right for us and our child is not necessarily right for our neighbors and friends.

Therefore we must check a number of genes in the desired area (home / work).

It is important that we have chemistry with the administrative staff but also with the educational staff (not always the kindergarten principals are a kindergarten teacher or a kindergarten teacher).

We should have a light conversation with them, listen to the language, the way of expression, and feel that we can connect with them.

From experience, there is a feeling of falling in love when it's it - we feel it all over our bodies.

In order to be completely relaxed after feeling that this is it, it is worth asking and hearing a number of recommenders.

Even wait near the kindergarten gate in the morning or at the end of the day and ask parents who are already in kindergarten.

Note that what is important to them is not necessarily important to you, and that is perfectly fine, the main thing is to make sure that there is trust in the staff and open, transparent and enabling relationships (in a garden that works well there is nothing to hide).

2. Kindergarten staff:

They will be the significant people who will accompany your dear child 6-8 hours daily.

Beyond the fact that we need to check that all the staff have been properly trained for their job, kindergarten teachers with a teaching certificate for preschoolers 0-6, caregivers who have undergone professional training, it is important to make sure the staff is satisfied and motivated for their workplace.

A stable team that works together for many years does not necessarily indicate success and high motivation.

More important is the general atmosphere such as: smiles, joy, a sense of help and mutual support among the kindergarten staff, and of course their interaction with the kindergarten children about which you can hear from parents in kindergarten or observation and listening while the kindergarten is active and in the yard.

3. Cleanliness and hygiene:

We already know we have been asked to ease our head on this issue, especially in a year like this.

Check that the garden maintains safety rules and considers cleanliness and hygiene to be a significant issue.

Both as a preventive factor and in educating children to the rules of maintaining hygiene and cleanliness on the way to independence.

Ensure that independence is given to children who can for it, both in dispersing positions for nasal dessert and a toilet position and hand washing adapted and accessible to independent children.

Check who prepares the meals in the garden and ask to know what is on the menu and what the basic products are.

Do you work with gloves and when?

What is the method of wiping the hands after rinsing papers, personal towels, common.

The way the masks are worn in the garden these days is also significant to learn about the conduct and seriousness given to the subject.

Gardeners do not insist on hand washing?

it's a problem.

4. Size does matter: the

more children there are, the more direct it affects the number of staff.

These days it is very important to have enough manpower in the kindergarten, and that it is possible to collect immediately from the kindergarten if a staff member is absent from work for any reason.

And of course, when there is a motif of more eyes looking on a daily basis, and the possibility of going out for refreshment, it is important for motivation and serenity of the garden staff.

The usual ratio is one caregiver for 4 or 5 babies, a ratio of 1: 6 for toddlers, at the age of 3 a ratio of 1: 9.

It is important to find out if there is a maximum quota, as not all registrants start at the beginning of the year, there are children who join during it.

As a result, the number of staff members also has an effect.

5. Kindergarten staff's ways of communicating with the parents:

It is important to ask how the parents are updated on what is happening in the kindergarten.

Are there regular daily or weekly updates, is there documentation in photos in a routine activity or only in special activities.

Are there cameras in the kindergarten (since in the coming school year the law enters into force and hereby requires private kindergartens).

Does the kindergarten share with parents both difficulties and challenges and not only the positive things, is there a request for help and cooperation from parents, these indicate a great level of openness that we must see for the better.

How the staff maintains contact with the children and parents in the quarantine is also an indication of the relationships in the kindergarten and the perception of their importance.

6. Pedagogy

: It is important to check whether the kindergarten is run under any pedagogical supervision and guidance.

They are to maintain the professionalism and guidance of the staff and parents in the field.

The presence of a pedagogical mentor makes it easier for both parties to know that the kindergarten has an objective mentor who maintains professionalism and work rules, safety and security.

During this time when parents cannot enter kindergartens it is important to know that there is someone who represents the children, parents and staff and is there to bridge and provide professional tools.

7. Agenda:

Find out what the agenda is in kindergarten, and it is very important to have one - a regular agenda has an effect on the children's sense of security and adaptability. It is important to check what topics and activities take place in the garden and when, what are the bedtime and meal times. What activities and classes are there in the kindergarten (when it will be possible to bring operators into the kindergarten). Of course under this section we need to find out the hours of operation of the kindergarten and the work policy on Fridays. As well as the number of vacation days that are in the garden during the year and whether you can find an arrangement for these days (in or outside the garden).

8. Nothing is taken for granted

: This year has taught us not to take anything for granted. Things we examine today may not be relevant tomorrow. It is therefore advisable to check what the cancellation and refund policy is. How the kindergarten is run and what the repayment policy is in the closure (this has a lot to do with learning about the financial management of the kindergarten). In contrast, it is also important to check in the other direction whether the kindergarten will be relevant for your child if you want to stay in it for another year.
