Sun Dor will stop flying on Saturday, Globes has learned.

Sun Dor is a subsidiary of El Al, and unlike its parent company, which does not officially fly on Saturdays and holidays, Sun Dor operated charter flights on Saturdays.

Now the travel wholesaler who wanted to book the Sun Dor planes to assemble holiday packages that incorporate take-off flights on Saturdays, have encountered a change in policy that has already gone into effect.

In fact, Sun Dor last flew on a Saturday in February 2020, and its flights have since been suspended in the shadow of the Corona crisis along with most of the parent company's schedules. This trend will now continue as the company's policy.

Sun Dor ("Golden Sun") is wholly owned by El On, however, it serves as a company that markets charter flights, seasonal and occasional flights on its own separate routes, and so it was able to operate flights on Saturdays as well.

About a decade ago, Sun Dor embarked on a process of rebranding to position itself as a company specializing in holiday flights.

For example, according to the company's plans for the summer of 2020, it was to operate flights to Naples, Thessaloniki, Odessa, Salzburg and more.

The flights were canceled along with the flight schedule deleted following the plague.

Will Arkia soon remain the only Israeli company that operates flights on Saturday?

Israir currently operates flights on Saturdays, but it is not inconceivable that at some point the new owners who will soon take control of Israir - Rami Levy and BGI, which he owns and owns Shalom Haim - will want to stop flying on Saturdays, like the other businesses they operate.

In such a case Arkia will gain a significant advantage, as many vacationers are looking for flights that take off and land on Saturday to adjust to the work week.

Meanwhile, on January 22, El Al's incoming CEO, Avigal Soreq, who will land in the coming days in Israel from the United States, where he has been living in recent years as COO of Delek US, will officially take over.

El Al has announced that incumbent CEO Gonen Ussishkin will end his term on January 21. Part of the two will overlap by means of screens, with Soreq being required to remain in isolation after landing in Israel.
